Setting up

On first launch, enter your hourly rate, choose an overtime profile, set the day and time your workweek starts and its time zone, and pick the pay schedule (semimonthly, weekly or biweekly). In the app, the W40 profile is called Weekly overtime and the D8W40 profile is called Daily and weekly overtime. You can change the rate or profile later in Settings → Pay rules & schedule; a change applies from a future workweek, and shifts already recorded keep the rule that was in effect when they were worked.

Recording a shift

1. Add a shift with its start and end time, to the minute.
2. Add any unpaid breaks inside the shift. An unpaid break is excluded from paid time only when it lasts at least 30 minutes and you confirm you were fully relieved of work. The editor does not accept a shorter or unconfirmed unpaid break: correct the times if they were entered incorrectly, or remove that break entry to keep the time paid.
3. Save. The pay period screen updates and shows which weeks the shift touches.

A shift can cross midnight, a workweek boundary or a pay period boundary. Payquill splits it for you and shows each part.

Confirming a week

A complete pay-period total requires every overlapping workweek to be confirmed, including weeks with no shifts, and every calculation to be within the supported profile. Confirming a week means that all shifts you worked in that workweek have been recorded. While a period is incomplete, Payquill identifies what needs attention and shows no period total; shifts whose workweeks are confirmed and supported still show their amounts.

A workweek can be confirmed after it ends. If a pay period ends partway through a workweek, its complete estimate waits until that workweek has ended and been confirmed. You can keep recording and reviewing your hours in the meantime.

When a week contains a daylight saving time change, the app shows the local start and end of that week and asks you to acknowledge the boundary before pay for that week can be calculated.

Reading the explanation

Open a shift to see its minutes, hour categories, rates, multipliers and the rules used to calculate its estimate. Open the workweek to see the shifts contributing to the weekly threshold. Time already classified as daily overtime does not count toward that threshold in D8W40. Where amounts are available, the period screen and exports use the same allocated amounts, rounded to cents for each shift's portion in a pay period.

Editing a shift

Before you save an edit, Payquill shows the shifts and periods affected. When both the old and new amounts are available, it shows their difference. If an edit changes a calculation to an incomplete or unsupported state, it explains the change instead of showing a numeric difference. You can save or cancel the edit, and undo a saved edit while Undo is available.

Backup and restore

Both are in Settings → Backup & restore.

• Backup writes a single file containing your shifts, rules, week confirmations and review snapshots. Save it to Files, iCloud Drive or anywhere you choose.
• Restore opens a backup file, shows what it contains, keeps a safety copy of the current data, and then replaces the current data with the backup.

Restoring a backup replaces the current records; it does not merge two ledgers. Backups can contain notes, earlier revisions and saved reviews as well as current shifts, so share them only with a recipient or storage service you trust. Backup and restore are available in Free.

Pro

Pro is a one-time App Store purchase for PDF export and keeping multiple saved review copies. Free includes the latest review for each period, all pay schedules, CSV export for your full history, backup and restore. Both versions use the same calculations. Previously saved reviews remain readable if Pro is no longer available.

• Buy: Open Settings → Payquill Pro. The App Store supplies the displayed price.
• Restore purchases: Use Restore purchases in Settings or on the Pro screen, on a supported device signed in to the Apple Account used for the purchase. This restores access to Pro, not your shift records. To transfer work records, restore a backup file separately.
• Refunds: Apple handles refund requests. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com to check whether the purchase is eligible and submit a request.

About the numbers

Payquill estimates gross pay from the shifts you record and the selected W40 or D8W40 profile. It supports one employer and one base hourly rate at a time, with supported rate changes starting at future workweek boundaries. It does not calculate taxes, deductions, tips, bonuses, shift differentials or blended rates within a workweek, and does not compare its estimates with a payslip.

The profiles do not cover every pay arrangement. Under D8W40, more than 12 paid hours in a workday or paid time on all seven workdays puts that workweek outside the supported calculation. The app keeps the hours and explains why no amount is shown. Select rules and boundaries that match your arrangement; Payquill does not determine which rules legally apply to you.
